It's been some time now since I have posted on "Thrive!", but I hope to get more regular at it again. It's been awhile due to ministry and life situations (loss of a parent, travel, additional ministry responsibilities, etc.). Even as a missionary (of course, I'm only human after all), sometimes my heart really does grow faint and I must remind myself and be reminded that God is sovereign.
Presently, I am reading a dear brother preacher's book, "When My Heart is Faint: Gospel Help When Life Goes Awry", by Dr. David Hegg (Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Santa Clarita, CA. Pastor Dave understands life and ministry fall under God's sovereignty in every way and every situation. I highly recommend his book as it helps us understand that spiritual depression can be very real, but doesn't have to overwhelm. Today I read this... "What do we need to remember about our God when our hearts grow faint? God is sovereign. God is faithful. He is our only hope in this life and the next. These simple facts, if properly understood, can get you through every circumstance that comes your way in this cruel world... To say God is sovereign is simply to acknowledge that He does all He pleases, is never curtailed by anything, and all He does is best and right. How could this be otherwise? As God He cannot be less than perfect in all his ways or less than right in all His decisions. This being true, God's sovereignty becomes the greatest refuge ever." I appreciate much Pastor David's words here. They in essence have served as a reminder to me that there is a starting point and a foundation that must be stood upon in order to face those things that come around. God's sovereignty can be ignored, but it can never be usurped are overcome. As you seek to live as a Christ-follower, may the Lord richly bless you with peace and comfort and confidence as you face life with Him in ultimate control. His sovereignty is non-negotiable. Thrive! Don't just survive! Blessings in Christ, Pastor Robert
